Wool Rug Care & Maintenance
Our rugs are handcrafted using natural fibres and traditional techniques. With the right care, they will age beautifully and last for many years. Please follow the guidelines below to maintain the appearance and integrity of your Studio BASE rug.
General Care & Maintenance
-
Vacuum regularly (1–2 times per week, or more frequently in high‑traffic areas) using a low‑suction setting.
-
Avoid beater bars or rotating brushes, as these may damage the fibres.
-
Rotate your rug every 6–12 months to ensure even wear and exposure to light.
-
Use felt pads or furniture cups under heavy furniture to prevent compression and indentations.
-
Place barrier mats at entrances and in high‑traffic zones to reduce dirt and grit.
-
Keep rugs out of prolonged direct sunlight to minimise fading.
-
We recommend professional cleaning every 12–18 months, depending on use.
General Cleaning Tips
-
Attend to spills immediately to prevent staining.
-
Scoop or blot excess liquid or residue first, working from the outer edge toward the centre.
-
Always blot gently; never rub or scrub.
-
Test any cleaning solution on an inconspicuous area before full application.
-
Avoid over‑wetting, as excess moisture can damage natural fibres.
Wool Rug Stain Removal – How to Treat Stains
Rather than following all steps in sequence, identify the type of stain and apply the recommended treatment method(s) below. Always blot gently, test first in an inconspicuous area, and stop if colour transfer occurs.
Treatment Methods (Reference Key)
A. Cold Water Blot
Use clean, cold water to dilute and lift fresh, water-based stains.
B. Mild Wool Detergent Solution
Mix 1 teaspoon of wool-approved detergent with 1 litre of warm water. Blot gently.
C. Freeze & Lift
Apply ice cubes in a sealed plastic bag or a freezing agent to harden substances such as gum or wax, then lift carefully.
D. Acetone (Clear Nail Polish Remover)
Use sparingly for paint, nail polish or ink. Ensure product contains no lanolin.
E. Dry-Cleaning Solvent
Use a small amount of white spirits to treat oily or greasy stains.
F. Vinegar Solution
Mix 1/3 cup white vinegar with 2/3 cup water to neutralise odours or tannin-based stains.
G. Household Disinfectant
For biological stains (e.g. urine or vomit). Blot lightly and avoid over-wetting.
H. Warm Water Rinse
Lightly rinse the treated area to remove residue, then blot dry.
I. Wax Removal (Iron Method)
Place absorbent paper over the wax and apply a warm iron to draw the wax into the paper.
J. Surgical Alcohol
For ink stains (especially ballpoint). Dab carefully.
K. Vacuum Once Dry
Vacuum pile gently after the area is fully dry to restore texture.
L. Professional Cleaning
Recommended for rust, dye transfer, or stubborn stains.
